Series 88 of record group 59-4 consists of maps and profiles of preliminary surveys (1837) of the Southern Railroad, originally collected by Michigan Lands Division, and were drawn by Stephen B. Brophy under the direction of Joseph S. Dutton, chief engineer. Survey of the railroad through Berrien, St. Joseph, Cass, Hillsdale, Branch and Lenawee counties (along the Michigan-Indiana border). The map is 28" x 23" with a horizontal scale of 1 mile : 1 1/2 in. and a perpendicular scale of 120 ft. : 1 in., in an elephantine folio (14 pages).
